Greetings to everyone,
Mary and I wish you the best of the holiday season and hope that you and your families are safe, warm and doing well.
After much debate about Doll U, Mary and I have decided that we will be calling it to a close. We have produced this event for the past 5 years and met some truly amazing and wonderful people. It has been an exciting time and it has been a joy to get to know each of you.
As most of you know, the facility where we have held Doll U these past years has changed owners. After May of 2008 they will no longer be conducting conferences on their premises. We looked at various other facilities in the Puget Sound area as a possible substitute but found them wanting in some degree or another, whether it be for price, lack of space, scheduling or location. It was quite discouraging.
It has always been important to us to produce an event that was affordable for the majority, promoted camaraderie among doll makers and presented a variety of wonderful teachers and classes. We debated the issue of presenting it on an every other year basis but in the end decided that it would be better to end it at this point, taking pleasure in the friends we have made, the classes we took, and the sharing we did.
We would not have been able to do these conferences without the board members. Some taught classes on Saturday night, some helped during the conference; and all gave many ideas. Many thanks to Pene Owens, Dee Collson and Diane Noren; who made our doll pins each year; and to elinor peace bailey who gave much, all of the time.
It has been a privilege to know each of you and we hope that our paths will cross again in the future.
All the best, Karen Shifton & Mary Stanton Two Friends, LLC
